Welcome to the
Whitewell Fishing Association

Welcome to the official website of the Whitewell Fishing Association which is a private angling club for game fishermen based in the spectacular Hodder Valley in the famous Trough of Bowland.

One of Lancashire best fly fishing waters in the picturesque Ribble Valley. We have unique salmon, sea trout, brown trout and grayling fishing opportunities available to our members over approximately ten miles of the River Hodder and the Isel Fishings of the River Derwent in Cumbria, it has been one of the most productive salmon rivers in England and Wales. Most of our Hodder fishing is on The Duchy of Lancaster Whitewell Estate with the renowned Inn at Whitewell at the heart of our fishing.

Fishing on our waters can be productive throughout the year. From March to September our Hodder and Derwent fishing both have a good wild brown trout population. Sea trout run the rivers from May onward but can be past their best by September, when the salmon runs start in earnest. Particularly on the Derwent, there are seasonal runs of summer fish too. The Hodder boasts a healthy population of grayling ( https://youtu.be/NV3ZxVWq8jc ), and so there is genuine game fishing available to our members all year round.

Membership of the Association is limited but applications are always welcomed from those seeking to join us in our unique club. There is generally a short waiting list for membership after which prospective members may be invited to attend an introductory meeting and informal interview before being offered membership. We have a strict sporting ethic espousing the traditional values of game angling, with an emphasis on fly fishing, to which our waters are particularly suited, and we are pleased to encourage applications from prospective members from all parts of the country who share our interests.
